Crafts, Jewelry And Plants Are Needed For Spring Dinner

Crafts, jewelry and plants are needed. These long winter evenings are a good time to concentrate on a hobby or craft. Crafts are needed for the Craft Boutique at the Spring Dinner and the Fall Festival. Plan to knit a scarf, a hat, or a baby outfit. Aprons are popular again. Christmas ornaments, wood crafts, and unique gift items are desired. Use your imagination and donate a handmade craft item. Let’s fill the room!

Jewelry is needed, too. Are pieces of costume jewelry that you never wear crowding your jewelry chest? Those rings, necklaces, and bracelets you no longer wear may be a treasure to someone else. Also, as spring approaches, we hope you’ll keep the Spring Dinner and Fall Festival in mind as you repot your houseplants and divide your annuals.

Please donate your crafts, jewelry and plants to the Women of St. James’ Parish for sale at the Spring Dinner and Fall Festival. Call Peggy Horn, Wendy Crawford, or Joy Wiley with your donations.

While registration is not required, it would be helpful to know how many plan to attend to ensure that there are enough materials for everyone at the workshop.

Prayer For Our New Diocesan Bishop

Please pray this prayer for our new Diocesan Bishop:

Almighty God, whose gentle hands shaped the shores of the Chesapeake and molded the hills of the Alleghenies: guide and direct your people as we seek a chief pastor for the Diocese of Maryland. Give us clear eyes and wise minds to see beyond our desires so that we might choose a bishop who loves and serves you. Support those who hear your call to discernment and surround their families with your care. Lead us by your grace to a greater understanding of your mission and ministry so that together we might grow more and more into Christ-likeness; through Him who died and rose for us and who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

Lenten Blessing

Look down in mercy, Lord, on your people who come before you, and grant that those whom you have nourished by your Word and Sacraments may bring forth fruit worthy of repentance, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you forever. Amen.

Maryland Episcopal Cursillo Weekend #95

Maryland Episcopal Cursillo Weekend #95 is going to take place April 24 – 27, 2008 and Weekend #96 will be in November 2008.

Parish members Linda Rines, Susan Whitehead, Earl Buffaloe and Pete Finne are on the team for Weekend #95. Nancy Horkan is the Rector for MD #96. Anyone interested in attending should contact our Rector. Information brochures are available in the rack opposite the parish office and information may be found at http://www.cursillo.ang-md.org .

What is Cursillo? Cursillo is:
• An opportunity to grow in faith and in spirituality
• A deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus and how we can serve Him
• An experience of living and sharing with others in a loving and caring Christian community and realizing that this can be extended into our own environment
• A continuing community that gives support and encouragement empowering the renewed Christians to persevere in carrying out their Baptismal vows.

Cursillo includes a three-day weekend which begins on Thursday evening and concludes on Sunday. During these three days, talks are given by lay persons and clergy who have spent time working together carefully planning and preparing for the Weekend.

The Cursillo weekend is not a retreat. There is no fasting. The weekend is an opportunity to meet clergy and laity who are seeking to strengthen their faith. It provides an opportunity through shared prayer, worship, study, fellowship, laughter, tears, and love to experience the reality of the gift of God’s love freely and unconditionally given.
