Fall Dinner - We Need YOUR Support!

St. James' Parish will hold the annual Fall Oyster and Country Ham Dinner and Festival on Saturday, October 19, from 1-5 PM. The menu will once again feature fried oysters, country and honey-baked ham, potatoes au gratin, homemade coleslaw, green beans, rolls and biscuits. The event will also feature a bake shoppe, garden shoppe, antique car show, attic treasure sales, and a book stall.

Sponsored by The Women of St. James' Parish, the dinner is one of the largest fundraisers for the Parish with the proceeds supporting the WSJP's generous financial pledge to the parish. Please donate your time and talents to support the event. Financial donations to help offset the cost of food for the dinners are appreciated and can be given to Lillie Barrett or Lesa Easer. We also need donations of baked goods, attic treasure items, plants, books and DVDs (see announcement in the newsletter for details).

Spring Auction Donations Needed

The Women of St. James' Parish are sponsoring a live auction on Saturday, May 18, 2019. This event will replace our traditional Spring Dinner. We need donations of quality items, business or restaurant contributions, gift cards, or any special services or talents you may have to make this fundraiser a success. Anyone can donate: neighbors, friends, and family. Donation Request Forms are available at the following link: http://bit.ly/2V2zWEV. These forms will also be available in the church library and the back of the Church. There will be a preview of items beginning at 3:00 PM on May 18th and the auction will begin at 4:00 PM. Christmas Boxes for Seafarers

The Women of St. James' Parish are asking for your help to provide Christmas Boxes for distribution by the Baltimore International Seafarers' Center to the many seafarers who find themselves on ships for the holidays. Boxes will be available for pickup during the Fellowship Hour on Sundays in November. Please fill each box with some of the following types of items: toiletries (sealed) such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream, deodorant; a new warm scarf or hat; postcards of Baltimore or Annapolis; new socks; pens and notepads; and playing cards. The WSJP will provide a paperback New Testament for each box. You may also want to include a Christmas greeting from your family. Please wrap your box as a gift (but no bows as they fall off), and bring it to the parish office or St. Mark’s Chapel on or before December 3.

Many thanks to all of the helping hands & support throughout the dinner planning and execution. There were 365 dinners served (143 carry-out). Overall profit cleared was $5479.25.

The Great St. James' Parish Bake-Off

Open to All Age Groups, this fun baking competition needs you! Bring your home-made-from-scratch cookies, cakes, pies and bread items to St. James' Parish on Saturday June 10th. Items will be judged by area chefs based on originality, appearance, and taste, and then auctioned at the annual Parish Picnic on June 11. Spring Dinner - We Need YOUR Support!

St. James' Parish will hold the annual Spring Crab Cake and Country Ham Dinner and Festival on Saturday, May 20, from 1-5 PM. This is a wonderful day of fellowship for everyone at St. James' Parish and the community, and we need your support! Please donate your time, your talents to support the event. Financial donations to help offset the cost of food for the dinners are appreciated and can be given to Peggy Tucker. We also need donations of baked goods, attic treasure items, plants, books and DVDs.
  • Baked Goods Donations Please be sure to make a note of the ingredients that you use in your baking. Many ingredients can potentially cause allergic reactions. We want to avoid any problems which may be caused by ingredients such as nuts, milk products, eggs or wheat.
  • Attic Treasures Gather up all those unwanted, gently used items that you have been meaning to get rid of in the attic and the basement.
  • Plants Please bring your newly divided house plants and perennials to the Parish Hall any time the week before the dinner. Please leave them outside by the North Portico.
  • Book Stall Please consider donating your gently used books and DVDs. Just leave your donations in the designated box located in the Parish Library.

Live Auction on Saturday, March 25 and We Can Use Your Help!

The Women of St. James’ Parish will be hosting a live auction on March 25th in our parish hall! Preview starts at 4 PM, with the auction at 5. We also plan to have food, beverages, and homemade desserts available for purchase. Cash or check only.

How can you help? 1) Attend the auction and bring your friends! 2) Help with set-up or clean-up! 3) Make and donate homemade desserts for us to sell! 4) Donate items to auction off!

Items that have sold well in the past include: quality household goods, antiques, fine jewelry, vacations, furniture, art, collectibles, homemade items. Pickup for donated items is available. Chico's Holiday Fashion Show & Luncheon, December 1

The Women of St. James' Parish are sponsoring a holiday fashion show and luncheon on Thursday December 1st at 11 AM in St. James' Parish Hall. The fashions will be provided by Chico's and available for sale, but you will recognize our models :)!

There will be a raffle and door prizes too! Tickets are $40, and will be limited, so get yours soon! Tickets will be available starting October 30 at Sunday services, the Parish Office (410-867-2838), and from Lesa Eser, Lillie Barrett, Peggy Tucker or Marjie Mack. Hope to see you there!

St. James' Parish will hold its annual "Crab Cake and Country Ham Spring Dinner" Saturday, May 21st, 1-5pm. Along with the dinner, the event will provide a book shoppe, bake shoppe, garden shoppe, antique car show, and other activities. The dinner is $22 for adults (eat in or carry out), $11 for children 10 years and under. Children under 2 years old eat free. Also, please donate any books/DVD's for the Book Stall. St. James' Parish will hold its annual "Crab Cake and Country Ham Spring Dinner" Saturday, May 21st, 1-5pm. Fall Festival Planning & Preparation

Mark your calendars! The Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 1–5 PM. The Festival featuring the Country Ham and Oyster Dinner is one of the largest Parish fundraisers held during the year. We need everyone's time and donations. The profit from the Festival goes to the operation of the Parish. It also funds special events and receptions as well as contributing to several outreach ministries. The WSJP will be contacting volunteers but, in addition, there are sign-up sheets on the Women’s bulletin board in the Parish Hall. Please take a moment today to sign up. Potluck Lenten Suppers

The Lenten program begins on Wednesday, February 25, and will be held each Wednesday evening through March 25th. The last will be held on Maundy Thursday, April 2nd. Each week fellowship begins at 6 PM in the Parish Hall, followed by a light supper and an informative presentation entitled, "A Spiritual Journey through Holy Week." This year, rather than providing soup for everyone that attends the program, the Women of St. James' Parish would like everyone to bring a potluck dish to share. A nonalcoholic punch, coffee, tea and dessert will be provided.

James Barrett is the Executive Chef and Director of Food and Beverage at the Weston Hotel in Annapolis, Maryland. Cultivating his craft in restaurants around the country, James cooking technique is a blend of cooking experiences accumulated throughout the US.

Food Glorious Food: Katie Moose on March 30

Katie Moose is the author of five cookbooks including two on the Chesapeake Bay, two on New England and "God's Bounty: 365 Days of Inspirational Cooking". With an avid interest in history, Katie will discuss early food and history leading up to the War of 1812.

Food Glorious Food: Patrice and Jim Bourne on March 16

Patrice is a personal chef and an expert in preparing food for challenging dietary needs, the elderly and special occasions. Jim, Patrice's husband, is today's new farmer. He has designed a new clean model for farming which uses no antibiotics or synthetics. Jim and Patrice Bourne are proprietors of "The Lamb's Quarter", a community supported family farm.

Food Glorious Food

Beginning Sunday, March 16, the Women of St. James' Parish will host "Food Glorious Food" a series of three presentations relating to food. Whether you are interested in how "clean" food is grown and raised in the 21st century, food preparation for challenging diets or special events, delectable recipes or tips from an executive chef, this three part series will be of interest to you. Each presentation will be held in the Parish Hall on Sundays following the 11 o'clock service. Everyone is invited to attend!

Lost Angels by Kelly Richard, November 24

Old chair legs, table legs, finials and spindles are combined with lost and discarded items to create Lost Angels. Each angel is a unique collectible. All materials will be provided, however, if you have saved something to embellish your angel please bring it to the workshop. The Anglican Rosary by Kerry Smith+, November 17

Since the earliest times, people have used pebbles or a string of knots or beads on a cord to keep track of prayers offered to God. The use of Anglican Prayer Beads, also known as the Anglican Rosary, is a relatively new prayer form which blends the Marian Rosary (Roman Catholic) and the Orthodox Jesus Prayer Rope. Hardanger by Joy Wiley, November 3 and 10

Hardanger is embroidery of thread on even-weave cloth using counted thread techniques. In this class we will be using Cork linen and make a bookmark. This workshop requires two sessions.
